Pet Adoption Information

Adopt don’t shop. Save a life, Adopt.

Animal control has many cats and dogs available for adoption at all times.

The primary objectives of the Shelbyville Police Department’s Animal Care and Control Division is to protect and educate the public. Animal control officers protect the public by responding to dangerous animal calls and they educate the public about the rabies virus, altering domestic animals and local and state laws. When these objectives are achieved they in turn protect the animals as well.

Secondary objectives include providing services to the public and animals through impoundment of stray animals or other animals at large, issuing warnings or citations as necessary, investigating cruelty and abuse cases, continued education and training for the Animal Control Officers, and an adoption program
